Gung Hay Fat Choy! In celebration of Chinese New Year, we went to see the Peking Acrobats perform. Okay, so it wasn’t really to celebrate Chinese New Year–we just really wanted to see them. This travelling troupe is 100% AMAZING. I wish that I could take pictures but here are a couple that I found from my trusty friend Google Image Search.
Below: Not only are they all spinning 5 plates in each hand, she’s managed to stand on her partner’s head. And she’s doing the splits. There were a few contortionist acts that really upped the ante–specifically, the girl with a tower of full water glasses balanced on her head while she herself balanced on top of two ladders on top of a board atop a cylinder that was rolling on top of a small table.
One of my favorites: The Lions (or dogs, I can never really tell). These guys did a great job, there were three lions and a little cub (just one person in that one). They wagged their tails and chased each other and scratched themselves. So great.
This was the grand finale. Okay. So we’ve just been wowed by fantastic bodily feats, and they break out the girl riding on top of the unicyle on top of the spinning umbrella, which is in itself a major act, just for the ending! So cool.
