• Kinetic Sculpture Race

    One of the quirkily fun traditions of this area is the annual Kinetic Sculpture Race, a 3-day-long race featuring some of the most amazing moving sculptures I’ve ever seen. These are man-powered, man-made sculptures that have to move on land, over water and through mud without the assistance of motorized vehicles. We went to Arcata to see the glorious start of the race.

    My favorite sculpture was a giant black & white cat who blinked and yowled at bystanders:



    Sarah grew up in Colorado but considers herself a Chinese-Malaysian-English-American. Her favorite thing to do is read in bed, or some sunny spot on a couch.
