We did this a while ago (March 28th, in fact), but it’s taken a few months to get the photos back.
A fun benefit to living in China is the popularity of photo studios. Relatively speaking, these photo studios are a bargain, so we took advantage of this opportunity and booked a day with a photographer. The total package included four outfit changes, two inside and two outside scenes, a nicely printed and bound book, a large mounted portrait, and the photos on CD.
Here are the results:
We started out with a traditional Shanghai 1930s look. Sarah had fake hair, which was pretty cool. The Chinese are obsessed with having fair skin, so these shots are pretty bleached out so we both look incredibly pale.
A happy couple
The weather was absolutely perfect: sunny and warm but not sweltering. Spring, alas, is all too short here in Shaoxing, and now, two months later, we step outside and immediately feel hot and sweaty.
Spring blossoms – beautiful!
The next set of photos were shot in Fushan park. This area skirts along the edges of the park and has nice shadows and light.
The stylist’s choice on hair and accessories lends, I think, a kind of “innocent first date” feel to these pictures.
Below are (I consider) some of the best shots of the day (I get a big kick out that retro feel).
I got a HUGE mane of hair for these shots.
Joel’s mustache got waxed nicely. Quite the gentleman, I think.
And finally… our last set up. We didn’t know what to wear, so the stylists told us to wear matching outfits (white shirts and jeans). The result: a family portrait straight from the early 90s.
So, we had a lot of fun and we now have some great (and some really cheesy) photos to commemorate our time in Shaoxing!
