If you’re a regular reader of our updates here, then you know a few things about us: we’re in China, we’re married, we like to eat lots of interesting foods…. but there is another facet of our lives that hasn’t been explored in enough depth here on Joel and Sarah’s blog: Joel’s mustache.
Since we moved to China, we’ve let go of a few social taboos that would have been frowned upon in America. For instance, we’ve come to embrace certain dinner customs like spitting bones on the table to be wiped up at the end of the meal, or burping loudly to express our approval of a dish. We hardly think twice about pushing through a crowd. We (try to) bargain with various vendors, expressing an inordinate amount of dismay and anger to get a price down by a few yuan. And from October 1st, 2007 to March 28th, 2008, after weeks of pleading on my part, Joel patiently grew what turned out to be (in my opinion) a very fine specimen of handlebar mustache, as evidenced in the pictures here.
A rapier point to match its wearer’s rapier wit?
So, Joel’s mustache, you will be missed by at least one person. Readers, please take a moment of silence to pay your respects. Also, for more information on mustaches, please click here.
